A plan for professional development

As a nurse, I am required to have continuing education credits to keep my RN license up to date. Therefore, it shouldn’t be too hard to incorporate this into my life plan and be held accountable to follow through.

I did some investigative research on the topics of nursing education and technology and how to integrate the two. I was super excited to find this conference in Boston this summer! Emerging Technologies in Nurse Education This is a third annual conference that “provides a unique opportunity to increase your awareness of new technology, integrate selected techniques into your own nurse education practices, and offers “how to” approaches as well as highlighting innovative programs from several schools of nursing.” What was a bummer is the cost…$295 for a two-day conference, not including travel/lodging expenses—and that’s the discounted graduate student fee!

So, long term plan will be to save up for the 4th annual conference in 2011… :)

The short term plan will be an on-line continuing education course titled Integrating Technology into Nurse Education Practice. This course will only put me out $15 and provide me with 1.25 contact hours. I plan to take this course by the end of the June and hope to integrate some of what I learn in it (plus what I have learned in EDU 619) into my clinical course this summer in working with undergraduate nursing students.

I will also sign up for the e-mail listing of Contemporary Forums’ online CE library updates. This will keep me in the loop of what current learning topics are available in regards to nursing education and technology.

I’m excited to continuing updating this blog with all that I have learned about technology! I will update & expand it with tip/tools/ideas that I have learned and will continue to learn! Added and updated below is a link to my Google calendar in which I will continue to add continuing education opportunities I find that could be helpful for nurse educators and their professional development.
